About Daiquiri
For those who love cocktails, there is a chance you ever drink a beverage called Daiquiri before since this drink is included in the 6 basic drinks on David A. Embury’s classic The Fine Art of Mixing Drinks that also mentioned and list some other variations. The variations of the drink are Hemingway daiquiri, Banana daiquiri, and Avocado daiquiri. If you are fond of drinks like smoothie, you may want to try frozen daiquiri. The drink itself is usually served in a cocktail glass with or without garnish.

Daiquiri Creation
Just like many other alcoholic drinks, the invention of the cocktails is also not clear due to the lack of documentation. One theory tells that the drink was supposed to be created by an American mining engineer named Jennings Cox, who was staying in Cuba at the time of Spanish-American War. The next story tells that a US congressman named William A. Chanler who bought the Santiago Iron mines in 1902 brought the drink to clubs in New York.

Daiquiri Recipe
If you are interested on making the drink yourself at home, try this recipe we took from foodnetwork. First prepare the ingredients like 2 cups of crushed ice and extra to chill the glass, 1 ounce fresh lime juice without the pulp, 2 ounces light rum, and ½ ounce simple syrup. Before making the drink, chill your glass by placing it in some crushed ice while you make the drink.

Then, place 2 cups of crushed ice into a cocktail shaker and add the ingredients then shake well. Strain the liquid and pour into your glass then serve immediately.

About Margarita
Another cocktail that looks like a daiquiri but comes with different name and similarly popular is Margarita. Unlike the former cocktails, this one is probably easier to notice since it usually served in a special glass called the margarita glass and with some salt covering the rim. In addition of the regular margarita, it also comes in a smoothie form called frozen margarita made by blending all the ingredients in a blender until forming an ice slush. This variation is probably inspired by tropical mixed drink like pina colada or hurricane.

Margarita Creation
There are several stories stating about the origin or who invited the drink but according to David Wondrich who is a cocktail historian, the drink is actually only a popular American and Mexican drink. The cocktail probably get inspired by Brandy Daisy but instead made with brandy, margarita is made with tequila, which gains more popularity during Prohibition. According to an account from 1936 in Iowa newspaper, their editor James Graham found similar cocktail in Tijuana years before margarita creation myths going around.

Margarita Recipe
Margarita is quite easy to make and won’t need much time. First prepare all the ingredients like 1 part tequila, ½ part triple sec or orange liqueur, ½ part lime juice, 1 lime wedge, and salt. To make it put ice and all ingredients in a shaker the shake well. Run lime on the chilled glass rim then roll it in salt then strain and pour the mixture to the glass.

Now, let’s compare Daiquiri with Margarita. Their difference is very clear from the ingredients since even though they are made with the same method, their ingredients are very different. daiquiri only used rum and lime juice while Margarita use tequila and orange liqueur. In the serving, Margarita is served in a margarita glass rimmed with salt as opposed to daiquiri in a cocktail glass without salt.
