Ice cream is a sweet snack that became a favorite of many people, ranging from small children to adults. With its sweet taste, soft texture, and cold sensation, ice cream is the right choice when the weather is very hot. Unfortunately, many people are forced to avoid ice cream because of its sugar and fat content. The appearance of frozen yogurt seems to be an answer of this problem. With the similar textures and flavors to ice cream, frozen yogurt offers fewer calories and fat. However, does it mean frozen yogurt is healthier for your body when compared to ice cream. Frozen Yogurt

Frozen yogurt was first introduced in 1970 but gained popularity in the 1980s. It is considered to be a healthier alternative to ice cream. Frozen yogurt is made a mixture of yogurt, milk, and cream. Frozen yogurt still includes sweeteners and other flavors. Because yogurt is cultured milk, it tends to have a bit of a sour flavor, compared to milk. Frozen yogurt can also have this sour flavor. The amount of actual yogurt in the product, and the amount of sweeteners or other flavors all have an effect on the amount of sourness you can taste in frozen yogurt. Frozen yogurt is also a dessert but is made from yogurt instead of cream, and hence more tart than ice cream. Frozen yogurt is served in different flavors as well including, vanilla, chocolate, peanut butter, berry, toffee, strawberry, and mango.

Ice Cream

The history of ice cream can be traced back to Baghdad where a form of ice cream was a popular dessert. But due credit has to be given to the Chinese who devised a way of making ice and milk mixtures. Ice cream soon found its way from China to Europe and then to the Unites States. Since then different forms of ice dessert have been made and served all over the world. Ice cream is a blend of dairy products (typically milk and/or cream), sweeteners, and other flavors that is churned while it freezes. Ice cream must have at least 10% milk fat, and weigh at least 4.5 pounds per gallon. Fresh fruits or artificial flavorings are added to impart particular flavor to this treat. Ice creams are served in cups, cones, as sundaes and with different topping such as chocolate syrup, nuts, wafers, caramel, fresh fruits and more. Some of the popular flavors of ice cream include, vanilla, chocolate, pecan, strawberry, Neapolitan, chocolate chip, cherry, almond, coffee and others.

These two snacks are equally healthy because of the milk content in it. However, the it also contain of some harmful content. The most feared is fat. In ordinary ice cream, the fat contained was 18.2 grams, while in frozen yoghurt only 2.5 grams so that 86 percent lower. Calories in ice cream are also higher than frozen yogurt. In ice cream there are 342 kcal, while at yoghurt only 170 kcal. In ice cream there is 38 grams of sugar, while the frozen yoghurt is only 27 grams so it is lower 30 percent. Ice cream and frozen yoghurt are just as good, but frozen yogurt has a healthier content.
